Tyler, the Creator also stated that Westside Gunn inspired him to resume rapping.

When Tyler, The Creator released “LUMBERJACK,” the first single from his new album CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, there was an unexpected voice providing ad-libs on the song: DJ Drama. Now that fans have the whole album, it’s clear that DJ Drama is all over it, improvising on the tracks just like he has done on the Gangsta Grillz mixtape series throughout his career. Tyler held an Instagram Live after the album was released, thanking DJ Drama for his contributions and saluting his legacy.

“Shout out to rap music, which I adore. “DJ Drama, I adore you,” Tyler exclaimed. “What you done for rap was incredible. All the Dedications, from all the Waynes. The [In My Mind: The Prequel] mixtape by [Pharrell]. For the We Got It For Cheap [series], to Clipse. From Lupe’s mixtape run to the Farenheit to the Revenge Of The Nerds, it’s all been a wild ride. For making me want to rap again, thanks to Jay-Z, Andre [3000], and Westside Gunn. Rap has impacted the life of n-ggas.”

While DJ Drama has worked on a number of mixtapes, notably Lil Wayne’s Dedication series and Pharrell’s In My Mind: The Prequel, he did not work on all of the mixtapes mentioned by Tyler.

The first two Re-Up Gang We Got It For Cheap mixtapes were hosted by DJ Clinton Sparks (the third was hosted by Drama), while none of Lupe Fiasco’s Fahrenheit 1/15 tapes were hosted by Drama. Nonetheless, T.I., Jeezy, Fabolous, 50 Cent, and a slew of other rappers have appeared in Drama’s Gangsta Grillz franchise over the years.

Drama’s studio was raided by authorities in 2007 when he was at the height of his powers, with his mixtapes helping to establish T.I., Jeezy, and Lil Wayne as rap superstars, and he and Don Cannon were arrested on RICO charges, however the accusations were later dropped.

DJ Drama contributes to the majority of the tracks on CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. Tyler shared a video with Drama after finishing the album, calling him a legend and saying, “This n-gga just roared over songs, years of needing this.”
