Twerkulator, a long-awaited viral track by City Girls, has finally been released.
It uses Afrika Bambaataa & SoulSonic Force’s Planet Rock as a sample.
City Girls’ new track, “Twerkulator,” was released today, but many fans are already familiar with the album. The song was leaked online in 2020 and quickly became famous on TikTok earlier this year. Despite the hype, JT told disappointed fans that they were unable to clear the song’s sample and that it would not be published. Their fortunes seem to have changed two months later.
Twerkulator specifically references and interpolates Cajmere’s popular dance track “Percolator,”
but the underlying sample is from Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force’s groundbreaking 1982 rap album “Planet Rock.”
